Pestana Palace began as the private residence of the Marquis of Vale Flor, a 19th-century Lisbon palace designed by Nicola Bigaglia. The building still carries the detail that matters for a wedding production, from stained glass and period furnishings to frescoed ceilings by Carlos Reis.

The Pestana Group acquired the palace in 1992 and restored it as a five-star hotel while keeping the original house at the centre of the property. Today, the hotel combines the historic palace with two contemporary wings connected by glass walkways. For couples, that structure is practical as well as beautiful. Pestana Palace works differently from a standalone palace because the hotel is part of the wedding structure. The property has 190 rooms across the original palace and the two contemporary wings, so guests can stay on-property rather than moving between a city hotel and a separate venue.
